Woolsey Hall is a magnificent hall, built in 1901 for the commemoration of Yale's bicentennial. The hall has a seating capacity of 2,695 and is used by the School of Music for performances by the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale, as well as recitals on the Newberry Memorial Organ, one of the world’s largest and most renowned pipe organs. As New Haven’s largest hall of its kind, Woolsey Hall is also home to performances by ensembles such as the Yale Symphony Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.
