Communicating a specific idea using the principles of design enhances analytical and conceptual thinking. The Communication Design concentration at Skidmore College consists of Communication Design I, Communication Design II and Advanced Communication Design (a repeatable course). Special Topics in Interactive Design and Typography may also be offered. Courses in Photography, Digital Media or Computer Imaging may also count towards the concentration. Students often apply for internships to gain additional experience. Photography, English, Computer Science and additional Drawing courses are also highly recommended. The pre-requisites for Communication Design are Visual Concepts, Drawing and Color.
