Georgia State University Undergraduate Research Conference 2016 Travis Robinson’s move to New York several years ago came as a cold, dark shock to his system. A native Georgian who grew up playing outdoors in the abundant sunshine, he found his moods were affected by the weather, driving him to change his major to geography with a concentration in urban studies. For his GSURC project, he examined inequalities in park access in Atlanta. Green spaces are vital for health and happiness, but not everybody can get to one. Although the city is known for its lush canopy, most of those trees are on private land, and Atlanta lags behind other major cities in public green space acres per capita. Robinson identified several factors at play, including safety, transportation and location. His research is ongoing.
