Named for USD Today Founder and 1950 USD journalism graduate Al Neuharth, the Al Neuharth Media Center is home to the USD Department of Contemporary Media and Journalism and all USD student media, including the student newspaper, The Volante. The building also houses the offices of South Dakota Public Broadcasting as well as the Freedom Forum, a nonpartisan foundation dedicated to free press, free speech and free spirit for all people. Originally constructed in 1929 as the armory and gymnasium, the building was renovated and renamed for Neuharth in 2003.
