The AWAC, built in 1980, was named for legendary Peru State coach and teacher Al Wheeler. The building is used for intercollegiate and intramural sports, health and recreation, physical education classes, and for a variety of special events. A $7.5 million renovation of the 21,000 square-foot facility in 2008 created new office space, a state-of-the art athletic training facility, fitness center, weight room, locker rooms, concession stand and hardwood court, among other exciting features.
